PUXICO -- Dexter extended its current winning streak to four as the Lady Bearcats had a relatively easy time defeating the Puxico Lady Indians, 25-13, 25-9, in a matchup of SCAA Conference teams Monday at Puxico.

"I could tell by the way the girls took the floor tonight that they were ready to play," Dexter coach Kris Vandeven said. "They came out strong and kept it up throughout the whole game. I feel like the girls have gelled as a team and are really starting to play well together."

While the Lady Bearcats appear to be finding a winning formula, Puxico had one of those nights that left Lady Indians coach Karen Hazel scratching her head.

"It just wasn't our night," Hazel said as she looked down her team's meager statistic that showed three players with one kill each and three players with one ace each. "We just didn't do very well tonight (Monday)."

Is this how it has been going for your team this season?

"No. We beat the kack out of Advance the other night and played really good," Hazel stated. "We got our passes, we got our spikes and we got our hits. We just didn't tonight."

Cathryn Heil and Abbie Warren (4 blocks) each had six kills to pace the Lady Bearcats in the quick two-game match. Heil and Brooke Thrower each had five digs, while Jessica Satterfield (4 kills, 3 digs) had nine assists.

The current winning streak as Dexter standing at 13-10-1 overall and 4-3 in SCAA play. Puxico's varsity squad slipped to 9-11-4 (2-5).

Puxico salvaged a split on the night as the jayvee team defeated Dexter, 25-22, 25-12. The loss drops Dexter's jayvee unit to 4-12-1 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

Dexter will be back in action tonight on the road against New Madrid County Central. Puxico will also be on the road tonight as the Lady Indians travel to Scott City.

Leopold roughs up Woodland

LEOPOLD -- Woodland's stellar play of late came to an abrupt end Monday as the Lady Cardinals were roughed up by Leopold, 25-7, 25-14, Monday on the road.

Woodland coach May Kay Stoneking knew her team would have to solve Leopold's blocking at the net if they were going to have a chance.

"They have some big girls and they know how to block," Stoneking said. "We just couldn't get around them. We just didn't pull together tonight.

With Leopold's dominating performance, the statistics for Woodland didn't look impressive.

Lauren Johnson and Chelsea Morris combined for just five kills to lead the Lady Cardinals while Brandi Killian had a team-high four assists.

Woodland is still in process of having a big season even with the loss.

"We're doing all right this season," Stoneking said. "It was an off night for us, but they (Leopold) are a good team. We just didn't have a good game overall tonight."

Woodland stands at 13-5 overall, 4-0 in SCAA play.

Leopold also took the jayvee game, 25-10, 26-24, 25-16.

Woodland will next be in action Thursday when the Lady Cardinals travel to Scott City, then they will be home Friday for an SCAA game against Advance.

Christine Farrah had five aces and eight points, while teammates Brittany Allen and Whitney McClung each had three aces and eight and six points, respectively.

"I was very pleased with both jayvee and varsity," Richland coach Jenny Sexton said. "They came out ready to win tonight (Monday). They looked strong in all aspects of the game and showed an increase in teamwork."

Tiffany Brown charted seven kills and one block to lead the Lady Rebels at the net.

The jayvee Lady Rebels made it a sweep on the night with a 25-20, 25-8 win.
