With the win, Bell City improved to 19-2 on the season and completed an undefeated SCAA campaign with a 7-0 record. Earlier, Bell City added its third-straight conference tournament title to this year's impressive resume.
Tuesday's regular season meeting between the two schools was suspended with 1:31 remaining in the third quarter and Bell City leading 53-41 after the teams were pulled off the court after the threat a of a tornado. Once the threat had passed, and after nearly an hour delay, officials of both schools elected to suspend the game and resume it Wednesday.
When play resumed, Bell City scored the first 16 points to turn a 12-point advantage into a commanding 69-41 lead.
Bell City's big three of Niemczyk, Phillip Gross (9 points) and Marty Dames (7 points) took turns pounding the offensive glass for extra shot opportunities when play resumed. Each player had three offensive rebounds during their first few possessions of the restart, while Dexter was trying to get its first points.
Bobby Rawson's offensive rebound and basket finally ended the drought for the Bearcats, but it was to late as the Cubs had surged to a 26-point lead with just 5:32 remaining in the game.
"We came back today (Wednesday) and I thought we did a good job controlling the glass," Bell City coach Brain Brandtner said. " It seemed like we got a lot of rebounds and that helped us extend the lead and give us a little bit of a cushion."
If the Cubs weren't crashing the boards, they were draining 3-pointers with regularity. Ethan Watkins finished with five, while Niemczyk and Austin Bush both netted three. Melvin Johnson accounted for the 12th trey for the Cubs.
Watkins did all his scoring from behind the arc and added one free throw for a 16-point night. Bush finished with 11 points.
The Bearcats were led offensively by Logan Carwile with 16 points, followed by Kevin Hart with 14 and Drew Kelley with 10.
The loss dropped Dexter's record to 5-14 overall and 3-3 in SCAA play.
The Bearcats have two regular season games remaining before district play. The 'Cats will be on the road Friday for a SEMO Conference game with Kennett, then will conclude regular season play the following Friday at home against Cape Central.
Bell City still has four regular season games remaining. The schedule shows the next game for the Cubs will be Saturday at South Iron High School.
