On a cool and windy day, on a course still trying to recover from the record rain fall of the past week, Holden carded a round of 3-under par 33 on the front nine at Hidden Trails Country Club to set a new school record during the Bearcats' match against New Madrid, Malden and Bloomfield Tuesday.
"He could have broken the record by two strokes, but he three putted No. 9," Dexter coach Eric Sitze said. "I think he had some adrenaline going."
The previous school record was 2-under par, which was held by several players, according to Sitze.
"In that wind, that was a super round," Sitze said. "He (Holden) has been hitting the ball pretty good, but he hasn't been making many putts. But he made some today."
Holden recorded four birdies on the day with his lone bogey coming on the last hole.
Holden quickly went 1-under to start his round with a birdie on the par 5 second, then added back-to-back birdies on the par 3 fourth and par 4 fifth. Holden putted from just off the green on four, then knocked it tight on five.
He took advantage of his length off the tee again on the par 5 eighth to go four under before his lone mistake on the finishing hole.
The record setting performance comes on the heels of another strong effort Monday at the Notre Dame Invitational where Holden took medalist honors at the 11-team, 18-hole event staged at Bent Creek Golf Cub in Jackson.
Holden carded a round of 4-over-par 76 to take top honors by three strokes over a trio of pursuers, Brett Leimback and Tanner Werner, both of Jackson, and Trent Hills of Poplar Bluff.
Dexter improved its team match record to 4-1 by defeating all three teams Tuesday. Dexter carded a 173 total to defeat New Madrid County Central (182), Malden (206) and Bloomfield (221).
Along with Holden's round of 33, the 'Cats counted rounds of 45 by Jon Bowman, 47 by Dillon Demaree and 48 by Logan Robey.
At the Notre Dame Invitational, Dexter counted scores by Bowman (87), Demaree (99), Matt Miller (106), along with Holden's 76.
