"Woodland has an all-around good team," a relieved Dexter coach Kris Vandeven stated after the match. "They hustle and hit the ball hard.
"Woodland just about gave us a run for our money," Vandeven continued. "They came out strong and beat us in the first. We made some adjustments and came back for the win in the second set. We dug ourselves out of a hole in the third set, after calling a time-out when the score was 7-16. Our backs were against the wall, but we turned it on and came all the way back for a win. It was definitely a good conference win for us."
With the win, Dexter remained undefeated at SCAA conference play at 4-0, 9-3-1 overall.
Jessica Satterfield and Cathryn Heil again led the way in kills and assists for the Lady Bearcats. Satterfield contributed 14 kills and eight assists, while Heil knocked down 10 points and assisted on nine.
Heil and Brittany Bedford led the team in digs with 13, while Satterfield saved 11.
The team was charted with 22 blocks over the three games, with Abbie Warren's seven leading the way. Elisha Flanigan and Heil each had five, while Satterfield rejected three, and McKenzie Mitchell and Kayla Joyner each had one.
Dexter (7-1, 3-1) made in a sweep on the night with a 25-23, 25-18 win in the junior varsity match.
With the come-from-behind win, Dexter set up an early showdown with Bell City, also undefeated in conference play.
The Lady Bearcats will travel to Bell City for their next match Thursday. Junior varsity play is slated to start at 6 p. m. with varsity play to follow.
