The two teams completed an earlier match that was postponed because of rain at Sikeston, then played the regularly scheduled match. In both matches, Dexter posted 9-0 wins.
"This was a good chance to work on conditioning for districts," Dexter tennis coach Leanne Dooley said, referring to the best-of-three set format used at districts as compared to the pro-8 set used during the regular season. "Sikeston is suffering a "building" year the same as we are. Their No. 1 is a sophomore that is a very good player regardless of the game count and she gave Katelyn (Heil) a good match. Katelyn is playing really well right now and we're looking forward to Districts next Thursday."
Heil posted a 8-1 win over Sikeston's Jacara Lampkin while Catherine Kinchen also earned a 8-1 win in the No. 2 slot over Caroline Murphy.
Juli Bell, Jill Temples, Audra Lasater and Jessica all earned 8-0 decision over their Sikeston opponents.
The match was the last regular-season duel. The Lady Bearcats will take part in a doubles tournament at Jackson this weekend, then turn their attention to the district tournament Oct. 9th (Thursday) at Sikeston.
Tuesday, the Lady Bearcats dropped a 9-0 decision to the Lady Tigers of Cape Central High School.
"Cape is really solid this year," Dooley commented. "All the girls play fundamentally sound tennis. Everyone either played their opponent the same as last month or in the case of Cathrine (Kinchen) and Audra (Lasater) they improved and got more games this time.
"All my girls played hard and we're still suffering from lack of experience at match level.
