"Tonight's (Monday's) performance was not what I had hoped it would be," Dexter coach Kris Vandeven stated. "Notre Dame's blocking and defense took us out of our system and we could never get our offense running.
"Their team came out fired up, and we just didn't," Vandeven continued. "When playing a team like Notre Dame's, there's no room for numerous unforced errors. Hopefully we'll take this week's practice time to prepare for a possible rematch with Notre Dame next Tuesday in district play."
Fresh off its emotional win over Bell City in the SCAA finals Saturday, Dexter appeared draggy and lethargic. The Lady Bearcats scored the first four points in Game 1, but Notre Dame battled back to make it 10-all. From there the Lady Bulldogs finished on a15-3 run.
Dexter tried to make a stand in Game 2, again hanging around and trailing by just one at 10-9, before the Lady Bulldogs again caught fire behind the hitting and blocking of Bridgette Nenninger to win Game 2 going away, 25-16.
The win will most likely give Notre Dame the No. 1 seed in the upcoming district tournament that will include New Madrid County Central, Doniphan, Fredericktown, Kennett, along with Dexter.
In jayvee play, Notre Dame won in two, 26-24, 25-17.
Bernie splits with Woodland
MARBLE HILL -- Bernie made the long drive north to take on Woodland and the Lady Mules earned a split with their SCAA rivals, losing the jayvee game, 26-24, 25-18, before winning the varsity match, 25-18, 25-17, Monday.
"The varsity played well tonight (Monday) and had fun.," Bernie coach Jeff Rodgers said. "Everyone played pretty well. Krista Armbruster played a nice game. We did a great job on serve receive and served the ball well (46 for 49 at 94%)."
The jayvee game was just a little different, according to Rodgers.
"This was one of the ugliest games I've ever witnessed," Rodgers commented on the jayvee contest. "Nobody deserved to win, but the rules state that somebody has to. We were as flat as all get out. This jayvee team finished at 12-12. That's pretty disappointing, these girls could have easily finished with 16-17 victories with just a little more energy at times. We have some potential, but were way too inconsistent this season. But, they're young and I think they'll work to get better."
Bernie's varsity team now stands at 16-13-1, and 4-3 in conference play.
Bernie will next be in action Friday when the Lady Mules will be on the road for a match with Oran.
