Dexter hasn't played a game in 11 days going back to the team's 49-45 win over Portageville in the third place game at the annual holiday tournament.
The Bearcats went 3-1 at the tournament and improved their season record to 4-6, but Dexter will face stiff tests in the next two games by defending district champs in Bloomfield and Bernie Friday night at home.
So far this season junior Alan Flannigan has posted some impressive numbers. The 6'5" post player is averaging 19.6 points per game and eight rebounds per outing. He is also adding 2.7 blocks per game to his statistics.
Senior Brandon Stoker has raised his scoring average to 9.5 ppg after a slow starter and is also averaging 2.5 assists. Other Bearcats and some of there season stats include Jon Bowman (7.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg); Ryan Windham (4.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.0 steals per game); Gary Summers (3.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.0 spg); and Taylor Jarrell (2.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg).
The 'Cats were scheduled to play Notre Dame Regional High School this past Thursday but the game was postponed because of inclement weather.
That game was to be the first in the Bearcat Events Center, which is still waiting to see its first action after Monday's girls game against Kennett was also postponed because of the tragic death of a Kennett student. That game has been rescheduled for Feb. 2nd at Dexter.
It looks like the first game at the new events center will now be Thursday when the Lady Bearcats host Caruthersville at 6 p. m. There will be ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 o'clock before the game. There will only be two periods of jayvee basketball played Thursday against Caruthersville, school officials announced.
The Lady Bearcats are supporting a 6-5 record and have been idle even longer than the boys, having not played a game since Dec. 23rd at the Twin Rivers Holiday Classic where they finished third.
Note: The Bernie-Advance game cancelled Thursday because of the bad weather has been rescheduled for Feb. 11th at Bernie.
