Bernie will play Hayti Saturday in Poplar Bluff

Friday, March 12, 2010
The Bernie Mules are one win away from a trip to the MSHSAA Class 2 Final Four.

Bernie will be looking to punch its ticket to the big dance Saturday when the Mules take on Hayti in a 2:45 p. m. quarterfinal game at Peters Gym in Poplar Bluff.

Bernie (26-4) defeated Oak Ridge to win the District 3 title, then defeated Van Buren, 64-23, in a sectional game to reach the quarterfinals.

Hayti (21-10), a team that Bernie beat 77-39 during the regular season, defeated Neelyville (54-50) to claim the District 1 title then beat Norwood, 59-48, to earn a shot at the Mules.

The Class 2 semifinals are scheduled for March 18th (Thursday) with the finals set for March 20th (Saturday) at the Hearnes Center on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia.

All year long I've been looking for a story about Bernie's "Three Jakes". Seniors Jake Smith, Jake Owen, and Jake Welch have been preparing for this state run since they were teammates their freshman year. But the real story might be about the "Three Jakes Granny's" who have missed very few, if any, games during that four year run. Good luck to the whole Bernie Team and Go Granny Go.

The 3 Jakes would be an interesting story, if they all 3 contribute a ton to the team. The three grannies, please spare us.

arog, It's called a 'human interest' story. I suppose if it should appear in print you could choose not to read it. :)

Good Luck Bernie!

In that case, it would be a human-disinterest story.
